Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how NOVA INDIE (“we”, “us”) handles personal data when you use the Nova Dictate iOS app and the associated backend service. The product converts live speech and audio into text transcripts using on-device speech recognition; we store minimal data on our servers to manage your account and purchase status.
1. Data we collect
- Device-scoped account identifier. When you open the app for the first time, we generate a random identifier derived from the iOS Vendor ID or a fallback random string. This identifier is stored locally and sent to our backend to create an anonymous guest account. It is not a hardware identifier (not IDFA, serial number, or similar) and is not used to track you across other apps.
- Transcription content. Speech recognition happens entirely on your deviceusing Apple's built-in Speech Recognition framework. Your raw audio recordings are never uploaded to any server. Transcripts are stored locally in an on-device SQLite database.
- AI Text Enhancement (Optional). When you use optional AI processing features (such as text polishing, grammar correction, formatting, or summarization), the selected text transcript is transmitted securely over HTTPS to OpenAI's API. Your voice audio is never sent to OpenAI.
- Usage counters. We track free-tier minute usage (3 minutes per new device) and any consumable token minutes, so we can enforce plan limits on our backend.
- Purchase records. When you subscribe or buy a token pack, Apple's StoreKit sends us a transaction receipt. We store the transaction ID, product identifier, and purchase date to unlock or extend your access. We do not see your real name, Apple ID email, or payment card details.
2. Data we do not collect
- Real name, email, or phone number.
- Location, contacts, browsing history, or advertising identifiers.
- Audio recordings — speech recognition runs on-device via Apple's Speech framework. We never receive, store, or process your voice data.
- Persistent cloud transcript history — your dictated text stays in your local SQLite database.
3. How we use your data
- Maintain your anonymous account and enforce free-tier or PRO plan limits.
- Process text refinement requests via OpenAI API when explicitly requested by you.
- Validate Apple IAP receipts and grant entitlements.
- Respond to support requests if you voluntarily contact us.
4. Third-party services
- Apple Speech Recognition.On-device speech processing is handled by iOS. Apple's own privacy policy governs their system. When on-device recognition is used, audio data does not leave your device.
- OpenAI API.Optional AI text polishing and processing features are powered by OpenAI's API. Text sent to OpenAI is transmitted securely via HTTPS. Under OpenAI's official Business API Data Privacy policies, data sent via the API is not used for AI model training or improvement, and is retained by OpenAI for a maximum of 30 days solely for abuse monitoring before auto-deletion.
- Apple StoreKit / App Store.Subscriptions and consumable purchases are billed by Apple. Apple's privacy policy applies to payment processing.
We do not embed analytics SDKs, ad networks, or any other third-party trackers.
5. Data retention
- Transcripts: Stored only on your device in a local SQLite database. We never have access to this data. If you delete the app, the transcripts are permanently removed from your device.
- Account records: Your anonymous device record and token balance are retained on our backend until you request deletion. No personal information is stored.
- IAP receipts: Transaction metadata is retained for accounting and to support purchase restoration. Only the transaction ID and product ID are stored.
6. Your rights
You may request that we delete your server-side account record at any time. Use the Delete Account option inside the app or email contact@novaindie.com. We respond within 7 business days.
7. Children's privacy
Nova Dictate is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the latest revision. Continued use after a revision means you accept the updated policy.
